Blind Taste 2024 Belle Glos "Clark & Telephone"

Saturday March 21st, 2026
9am - 8pm
All Day Long!

For just the 2nd time since March of 2023, the Belle Glos Clark & Telephone blind tasting has returned due to overwhelming demand (who doesn't love blind tastings?!?!?)

As a Pinot Noir lover...this may be my favorite blind tasting. I don't do enough blind tasting and it really is a fun way to just decide what my taste buds love most - no matter the cost (but let's be honest I want it to be lower than higher!!!).

If you don't know the price, can't see the label, and can't hear someone barking in your ear about the wine's "score" or prestige, then all that is left is the juice and your taste buds. It's a scary proposition for any winemaker. That's why you have marketing departments that design catchy labels, create campaigns to build a wine's image, and spend all of their time and energy essentially trying to convince consumers that a wine is great. The problem is that you can't out "market" a blind tasting.

Which is why we're playing "Find the Belle Glos" this Saturday. It's simple really. Eight wines will be tasted blind on the tasting machine. One of them will be 2024 Belle Glos "Clark & Telephone" Pinot Noir and the others will be an assortment of Pinot etc. at every price point from a number of different regions. All you have to do is load up your card with $8.00, taste all eight wines (you don't have to taste all 8 if you don't want to, but it's more fun if you do!), and pick your favorite. Yes, that's right, your favorite. If that's the Belle Glos, then great, if not, well that's OK too. You may be surprised as to what your favorites actually are.

Get ready to taste some amazing Pinot Noir! We will announce the winners next Tuesday!

SALE ITEMS THIS WEEK:
The best value wine of all time?

The rosé gods did not appreciate us not putting a rosé on sale last week as we cruise into spring, and I feel like they responded with cold weather.

So we are BACK, with one of our more epic rosé offerings to get us back to warm weather this weekend!

So here is the question...

How does a rosé become the #3 best selling rosé of all time in the store and we've only mentioned in a newsletter 2 times?

By delivering the goods, in a BIG way.

Rosabelle is affordable, delicious, and nutritious (well, maybe not nutritious but I think that used to be an advertising slogan back in the day 😂).

I'm glad wines like Rosabelle exist. I need more delicious $10 wine in my life! I'm tired of people trying to convince me that the $8 PB&J on the kids menu at the restaurant makes any financial sense. Or the $13 side of mac and cheese. Make the madness stop please!

Anyhoo - back to a $9.99 bottle of stunning rosé...

For rosé it doesn't matter as much what grapes you use, just the process. Though they need to be picked early and when they’re still tangy and tart. For Rosabelle that means Grenache and Cinsault. These days a paler style of rosé prevails, set by Provençal producers and Rosabelle is cut from that cloth.

Added bonus here? According to Vivino the average price paid for Rosabelle out there is $18.33 - and you're getting it for $9.99 per bottle.

SCORE!

On Sale through Sunday...but I know what I'm drinking tonight!!

Happy Wednesday All!

It's March Madness, and every spring we start with a little madness of our own.

The biggest sale we run every spring is Benières for $9.99, and the day has finally arrived.

Benières Pinot Noir and Chardonnay which you all have gobbled up to the tune of more than 20,000 cases (that is a lot of wine) in the last 48 months, is a staple in my house and now - more than ever - the type of value it is delivering is a very welcome thing for me.

We told you back in December that for the 5th year in a row Benières Pinot Noir and Chardonnay didn't win the voting here for our Wine of the Year, but maybe they should have. That we were not sure there is any brand we carry more on fire than Benieres - and that there is no brand bringing more thunder when it comes to the quality / price ratio than these wines right now.

The guy who wrote the review above about the Benières Pinot Noir clearly agrees 😂 My guess is he is buying a case at this price.

As always, thank you for your support. We work hard every single day to bring you the best possible customer service, the greatest quality wines, and the guaranteed lowest prices...and it is because of you that we are able to make that happen.

You guys know the drill!

Let's do this! Happy Tuesday!

TGIF! Am I right?

As I have mentioned winter is over for me so I am refusing to wear a jacket outdoors while we go through this cold snap or whatever it is...

Anyhoo...back to the wine of the day.

In 1988, a group of frustrated California winemakers had a problem. They were making world-class Bordeaux-style blends - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec - but federal regulations said if your wine didn't contain at least 75% of a single grape, you couldn't put that grape's name on the label. Your options were a proprietary name nobody recognized or "table wine" - the marketplace equivalent of a dunce cap.

So they held a contest. Over 6,000 entries from around the world. A guy named Neil Edgar from Newark, California won with a word he invented: Meritage. A portmanteau of "merit" and "heritage." It rhymes with heritage - not the French way. The rules were simple: at least two Bordeaux grapes, no single variety over 90%, and it had to be the winery's best blend.

The very first winery to ever put that word on a label? Dry Creek Vineyard.

David Stare studied civil engineering at MIT. Got his MBA at Northwestern. His dream job was to become president of a major railroad. He worked for the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad for years. Then in 1967 he took a job with a German steel company and moved his young family to the Rhine Valley. On weekends, he started visiting wineries.

That was the end of the railroad dream.

In 1970, Stare spent two weeks driving through Burgundy, Bordeaux, and the Loire Valley. He fell in love - specifically with the crisp, mineral Sauvignon Blancs of the Loire and the structured, elegant blends of Bordeaux. When he got home to Boston, he read an article in the Wall Street Journal about the future of California wine. He packed his wife and kids into a mint green station wagon and headed west.

In 1972, he bought a 55-acre prune orchard across from the Dry Creek General Store in Sonoma County. The agricultural advisors told him not to plant Sauvignon Blanc there - they said it was "inappropriate" for the region. He planted it anyway. It became the first Sauvignon Blanc in Dry Creek Valley history. His Fumé Blanc became the first in Sonoma County. In 1982, his winery was the first in California to put sailboats on wine labels - a bold move when everyone else was doing faux-French chateau designs. In 1983, he petitioned for and won AVA status for Dry Creek Valley, then became the first to use that appellation on a label. In 1985, he became the first to use "Meritage" on a label and the first to coin "Old Vines" for Zinfandel.

Sensing a pattern here?

The guy from Boston who wanted to run a railroad became Wine Enthusiast's "American Wine Legend" and one of the most decorated pioneers in California wine history. He founded the first new winery in Dry Creek Valley since Prohibition. His daughter Kim runs it now - second generation, still family-owned, 185 acres of sustainably farmed vineyards, 100% Certified Sustainable, Top 100 Winery from Wine & Spirits Magazine.

And they've never forgotten the sailing. Dave grew up sailing in Massachusetts. The sailboat labels weren't a gimmick - they were an extension of who the family is. In 1977, Dave sponsored the first sailing team at Sonoma State. In 2000, they launched their America's Cup Reserve series. They became the Official Wine of the Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series. They partnered with US SAILING for nearly a decade, donating a portion of proceeds from their Regatta wines back to sailing education programs.

This Regatta Meritage is the best sub $25 representation of one of the most historically significant Bordeaux-style blending programs in American wine that we have ever found.

So let's drink some awesome wine tonight, shall we?

There's a 100-million-year-old rock formation running through the Loire Valley that produces some of the most distinctive white wine on earth. The rock is called silex - ancient flint, left behind when prehistoric seas receded and the Cretaceous limestone eroded away. When you strike two pieces of silex together, you get a sharp, metallic smell. That smell is called pierre à fusil in French. Gunflint. It's also the smell you get in the glass when you pour a great Pouilly-Fumé.

That's where the name comes from. Fumé means smoky. The old-timers called Sauvignon Blanc grown here "Blanc Fumé" - smoky white - because of that haunting mineral note that great silex soils give to the wine. The best bottles smell like you just fired a flintlock pistol, then handed someone a glass of cold citrus and white flowers. It's one of the most singular aromatics in wine.

The problem? Pouilly-Fumé and its neighbor Sancerre have become increasingly difficult to find - and when you do find them, the prices have become increasingly difficult to justify.

Enter Antoine de la Farge.

His family has been making wine in this part of France since 1560. That's not a typo. Four and a half centuries. Sixteen generations. His grandfather, Gérard Clément, was one of the founders of the Menetou-Salon appellation back in 1959 and remains one of the most respected figures in the region. After spending eight years working in the wine trade - including a stint as a buyer for one of the largest wine merchants in France - Antoine came home in 2012 to take over the family vineyards and do things his own way.

His philosophy is simple: the winemaker is the "cement between the grape variety and the final wine." He's not trying to manipulate anything. No commercial yeasts. No pumping - everything moves by gravity. Hand-harvested. Organically farmed. He describes his job as a conductor transforming soil into music.

And the soil here is spectacular. Antoine's Pouilly-Fumé comes from vineyards that are 65% silex with the rest being caillottes - white chalk. This is the exact combination that produces the most electric, mineral-driven Sauvignon Blanc in the world.

Here's the part where you need to pay attention:

  • Same grape as Sancerre? Correct.
  • Same terroir as Sancerre? Indeed - both appellations sit on opposite banks of the Loire, sharing the same mix of Kimmeridgian limestone and silex soils.
  • Same taste profile? Without a doubt
  • Same price as Sancerre? Absolutely not. 😉

The most famous producer in Pouilly-Fumé history was a wild man named Didier Dagueneau - former professional motorcycle sidecar racer, long hair, dramatic beard, zero patience for mediocrity. In the 1980s, when the region was associated with overcropping and thin, weedy wines, he arrived and started publicly criticizing his neighbors. He tilled with horses. He dropped yields to 75% of what everyone else was harvesting. He made single-parcel wines when nobody else was doing that. His "Silex" bottling - named for the soil - became one of the most sought-after white wines in France, routinely selling for $150-$200+ per bottle. He died tragically in an ultralight plane crash in 2008, but his legend transformed how the world views Pouilly-Fumé.

Antoine de la Farge is cut from the same cloth - meticulous, uncompromising, obsessed with terroir - but without the Dagueneau price tag.

Same flinty silex soils. Same ancient winemaking lineage. Same electric, mineral-driven Sauvignon Blanc that Dagueneau made famous. A family that has been doing this since the year Shakespeare was born.

Quantities are scarce. They always are with producers this good at prices this low. If Sancerre is your thing, or Sauvignon Blanc is your thing, or you just want to understand what all the fuss is about with these ancient French soils that somehow translate into something you can smell in a glass - this is the one.

I know what I'm drinking tonight!

In the wine business, the difference between a $10 bottle and a $40 bottle often comes down to one thing: who you know.

The people behind Waccamaw Proprietary Red spent years working alongside legends like Eric Solomon and Martine Saunier. If you don't know those names, here's the short version: Eric Solomon founded European Cellars right here in Charlotte, was named Robert Parker's Wine Personality of the Year, and built his career finding world-class producers before anyone else caught on - places like Domaine de la Janasse, Marcoux, and Clos Erasmus. The guy started as a rock drummer in London and ended up becoming one of the most respected importers in America. Martine Saunier was the first woman to import Burgundy into the US. She introduced American wine drinkers to Henri Jayer - now one of the most expensive and sought-after producers on the planet - and Domaine Leroy, and Château Rayas. She drove around France in a VW Bug in 1969 knocking on cellar doors when nobody else was paying attention.

When you spend years working with people like that, you learn where the good stuff is. You build relationships. You get phone calls that other people don't get.

Waccamaw is a Cabernet blend that punches way above its weight. Black cherry at the center, layered fruit, enough structure to be interesting but soft enough tannins that you can open it tonight without planning ahead. It drinks like something twice the price - which is exactly what happens when people with real connections source fruit that most producers never get a shot at.

At $12.99, this is the bottle you open on a Tuesday. It's the bottle you put out when guests show up early and you don't want to burn through the wines you bought FOR dinner BEFORE dinner 😂. It's the bottle you buy a case of and don't overthink.

You know how these things go.

I know what I'm drinking tonight! Let's do this!

A little more $9.99 rosé as we continue to ease into Spring...

We've been talking quite a bit about how much I love a good $9.99 bottle of wine. But what happens when you can get an EPIC bottle of wine for only $7.99?

We're talking across the pond. All the way from France, to your doorstep for $7.99...and it's as delicious as anything out there?!?!

People call it the blue top wine, BBT, the wine with the fish label. People call it lots of things because people are constantly asking for it and it is basically walking itself out the door 😂

It's our #1 white wine for a reason.

What's up with the wine?

We found the Vivarés brothers from Cotes de Thau – you’ve probably not heard of it but it’s the hilly coastal part of Languedoc in Mediterranean France. They live in Pézenas, which you should visit someday because it’s the charming birthplace of France’s greatest playwright, Molière. Robert Vivarés has a B&B with a fine restaurant and Paul travels the world for his business tasting a lot of wines. They needed a house wine that reflected the place where they grew up. So they blended Picpoul and Terret Blanc from the hills around them and called it Bleu Blanc and its straight up silly value.

Happy Thursday all! I think it's the weekend, right?

It's going to be nearly 80 degrees across parts of Georgia and North Carolina this weekend, and that means we are continuing our e-mail series called "I don't care what anyone says, winter is over and I am living in Spring..." 😂

...and my rosé of choice this weekend will be Balcon sur la Mer.

Let's set aside for the moment that I love the package, and it kinda transports me to some place I'd like to go for vacation but I'm not quite sure I can afford 😂

Balcon has all the things we love about dry rosé. It delivers everything you want in spades. This unctuous pink wine is dry, stony, fruity, lengthy. Comprised of Grenache, Grenache Gris and Mourvedre, there’s a lot more here than many a rosé that you’ve tasted before.

Oh, and it's $9.99. I have to be honest - the more and more I see rosé prices (or honestly the prices of anything) out there in the marketplace, it makes me happy to think some producers still want to churn out ultra high quality, affordable hits. I mean, I paid $14.99 for a pound of Boar's Head ham this week at the grocery store...what is the world coming to?

So let's drink the hits this week, and celebrate all things delicious and sub $10, am I right?!?!?!

Let's drink the greatest value (or any?) rosé of all time...

Grand Cru Saint-Emilion for $17.99...this is not a drill
Not sure I've ever seen drinks move this fast before...

Seigneur du Feu is definitely back.

It made its huge splash by winning the 2025 Silver Oak Blind Tasting at only $9.99 per bottle (it almost won the Caymus Blind Tasting), and sales in 2025 were up over 300%!!

The last 3 times this wine has come back in stock you all have purchased - over the course of 7 days - 809 six packs, 943 six packs, 1176 six packs.

So far this week - just since Wednesday? 978 six packs. The record is going to be broken AGAIN!

Now you get why this wine has been near impossible to keep in stock. 😂

I think people are yearning for a wine (or any product for that matter) that actually can deliver high quality at low prices. It's what we're always shooting for here at winestore., and Seigneur du Feu is leading the charge.

What have we told you about this wine?

Just based on back orders for people waiting for this to come back in stock, it may be a record. One of our team members even e-mailed the whole company last night and said:

What sent this wine into overdrive?

Our blind tastings always seem to produce some upsets, but honestly this one may take the cake.

Highland Falls, one of our best selling wines of all time, won the Caymus Blind Tasting last fall.

A surprise? Sure. But the wine is a known entity. It sells like hotcakes. I could see it winning in the right conditions.

The Silver Oak Blind Tasting?

In this particular case we had a wine that was the last wine we added to the lineup, a virtual unknown, and a wine we have featured in our newsletter just ONE TIME in our 19 year history, that took home the crown.

I'm sorry, what?

I was so worried that nobody would believe us, that we just decided to include the voting results. You can view them here.

581 of you came in January to test your blind tasting chops across 8 wines - and 25% of you voted Seigneur de Feu in first place. Besting Silver Oak by 14 votes.

These two wines, a $10 wine and an $80 wine, took home 47% of ALL the first place votes.

Just wild...

What is even more insane, is that in the one e-mail we have sent about this wine (and I just read this and it kinda gave me chills), I told you - as kind of a joke - that Seigneur du Feu was basically like Silver Oak but only for $10 because of the use of American Oak in the wine. 👀

Here is what we told you:

"Throughout the last two centuries of winedom, French wine has been aged in French oak. Or has it? In the 19th century, French forests, planted for warships, were plentiful enough for barrels too. In the early 20th century, barrels made from Eastern European oak became more common, especially after WWI decimated French forests. But they were replanted with purpose; the barrel industry returned and has dominated the idea of top flight wine ever since. Yet, American oak is crucial to many other wine regions: Spain, Australia, the U.S., maybe even Silver Oak (they love that vanilla smell). So this is a southern French Cab with American oak’s lashing of coconut and sawdust – the classic aromas of American oak barrels.

Maybe think Silver Oak from France, but only costs $9.99? There may be some hyperbole in there, but you get the idea!
😂"

Have we just uncovered the next big thing?

I have no idea.

But this is so damn exciting I barely know what to say.

Welcome back (again) Seigneur du Feu!!!

Saturday Funday? That's a thing, right?

When beverage wizard, and Highland Falls President, Francesca Kimbell told us that Highland Falls was coming out with two new flavors...we were a little more than excited.

In just a few short months these drinks have gone from "What are these?" to this type of frenzy...

Highland Falls’ Delta‑9 THC beverages have converted even our most skeptical tasters. I was suspect of this market for a long time, but after trying this lineup, we've gone all in.

Their latest flavors - honestly game changers for me.

The Golden Glow is the best tasting drink in this category that I have had! (full disclosure I had one last night and slept maybe the best I have slept in months 😂)

So to celebrate their arrival, we're putting all six of their flavors on sale for $17.99 per 4-pack through Sunday.

All six are gluten‑free, alcohol‑free, and vegan - and low calorie to boot! The Highland Harmony is only 35 calories per can!

I knew we needed to stock them full time when after we brought them in on a trial run my 73 year old mother in law and mother both ordered mixed cases 👀

Chances of me having a Golden Glow this evening? 100%

A Pinot Noir STAR for $9.99...I'm all in!
Does it taste like Caymus for only $16.99?

I am desperately hoping this ice stays away, but according to my wife the panic meter needs to stay in effect for the winter storm!

Good news is I work at a winestore and they may have all the provisions I need!

As for todays option? How about maybe the hottest under $10 Chardonnay in the US - on SALE for $7.99.

I paid $4.99 for a pouch of ice cream the other day, so it is almost tough for me to explain how silly this price actually is for the quality you are getting.

The winery reported to us that sales were up 72% in the US market in 2025 - which by all accounts is absolutely bonkers.

That said, I get the hype.

In France, the grape is sometimes secondary; it’s the place that counts, at least when it comes to the labels. So it took years before the French would even let someone drop the name of the grape on the label; well, except for in Alsace, but that's a whole other story. The French label police have loosened up a bit and, particularly with wines from the vast Languedoc-Roussillon region in the south, they’re okay with Chardonnay, as with this bottle, being on the label.

Vast as the region is, it matters if you’re close to the coast, or up in the mountains, and with a grape like Chardonnay, cooler, higher elevation sites are best and that is exactly where this comes from. About a third of the wine is barrel-fermented; the rest is in stainless steel, with just enough lees-stirring to fatten up the wine and round it out.

It's everything I love about the wine business - while there are plenty of producers out there trying to squeeze every last cent they can out of their customers, there are then wineries like Belleplane. Where the goal is to create the absolute most luxurious product possible for the least amount possible. These are my kind of people!

We'll have this gem on the tasting machine at all 9 stores for just $0.01 through Sunday, in case you want to see for yourself what all the hype is about.

Anyone fancy a glass of Chardonnay by the fire this weekend?

Taste Silver Oak Blind vs. $25 Rivals!

Saturday January 3rd, 2026

All Day Long!!

Also WIN a Magnum of 2021 Silver Oak!

Complete The Tasting, Vote for your Favorite, and you will be entered to win a MAGNUM Of 2021 Silver Oak Alexander Valley! One magnum will be available to win at each store!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

#1 Comment from every single end of year feedback / message box is always "more blind tastings!"...so we're just gonna start the year off right, and give the people what they want!

This Saturday we're hosting the OG, the original, the groundbreaker blind tasting - our Silver Oak Blind Tasting.

We first hosted this event in January of 2007...which seems like a long time ago! I anticipate though this will be our favorite yet!

Also, for the third year in a row here at winestore., once you complete the tasting and vote for your favorite wine, you will be entered to win some Silver Oak - and this year we are raffling off NINE Magnums of Silver Oak Alexander Valley!

Possible way to spice up your next party? I think so.... 😂

It's the tasting that brought you winners like Seigneur de Feu ($12.99), Rockus Bockus ($12.99), Gun Bun Mountain Cuvee ($14.99), Ca' Momi ($7.99) , BR Cohn Silver Label ($18.99), Treana Red Blend ($24.99) Snowvale ($12.99) and more. It's the tasting that brings the stars of the wine world to their knees.

It almost seems unfair, I mean a Maserati is supposed to go faster than a Yugo, and a $60 wine is supposed to taste better than a $12 one. Right? Well, maybe not. A wine's success isn't measured in MpH, it's measured in the taste that is transferred from the glass to your mouth. If you don't know the price, can't see the label, and can't hear someone barking in your ear about the wine's "score," then all that is left is the juice and your taste buds. It's a scary proposition for any winemaker. That's why you have marketing departments that design catchy labels, create campaigns to build a wine's image, and spend all of their time and energy essentially trying to convince consumers that a wine is great. The problem is that you can't out "market" a blind tasting.

Which is why we're playing "Find the Silver Oak" this Saturday. It's simple really. The wines will all be tasted blind on our tasting machines. One of them will be 2021 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet and the others will be an assortment of wines at every price point, from a number of different regions. All you have to do is load up your card with $8.00, taste all eight wines (you don't have to taste all 8 if you don't want to, but it's more fun if you do!), and pick your favorite. Yes, that's right, your favorite. If that's the Silver Oak, then great, if not, well that's OK too. You may be surprised as to what your favorites actually are.

We hope to see you Saturday - t
his is always a fun event! We'll release the winners next Tuesday!

Sometimes I feel like there is no innovation in the Champagne space.

Like you know what you know, what's out there is out there, and it is what it is...

Then I met the Gratiot family on a trip to France in February.

There's a reason you've probably never heard of Charly-sur-Marne. It's not Reims. It's not Épernay. It's a tiny village in the far western corner of Champagne - the Vallée de la Marne - where the big houses don't bother going because the grape that dominates here isn't the glamorous Chardonnay or the prestigious Pinot Noir. It's Pinot Meunier. The workhorse. The "other" grape. The one that rarely gets its name on the label.

But here's the thing: Charly-sur-Marne is literally known as the "Capital of Pinot Meunier." And when you find a grower-producer who has been farming these slopes for five generations - who actually celebrates Meunier rather than apologizing for it - you find Champagne that tastes like nothing else.

The history here goes back to 1868, when founder Marie-Désiré Gratiot started with just 1.5 hectares of vines. His obsessive attention to grape quality won him the prestigious diploma at the Concours Agricole de Paris in 1899 - back when Champagne was still establishing itself as the king of sparkling wine. Five generations later, Rémy Gratiot now patrols 18 hectares across 42 different plots in 7 villages, and he still does it on foot, every single week. When I visited the estate, that commitment to detail was obvious in everything they do.

The Almanach No. 1 is the affordable gem of the lineup - 85% Pinot Meunier with 15% Chardonnay. Vines average 35 years old. Hand harvested. Half the blend is reserve wines that have been jealously guarded in the cellar. It spends a minimum of 36 months on the lees before disgorgement.

What does that translate to in the glass?

A Champagne that's fruity, generous, and unapologetically expressive - ripe stone fruit, brioche, baked apple, a hint of toast - with a creamy texture and bright citrus finish. This is not austere, cerebral Champagne. This is Champagne that makes you want to open another bottle.

The Gratiot family earned HVE Level 3 certification in 2020 - the highest level of environmental certification in France - so they're farming with genuine respect for the land. And because they're a small grower-producer selling direct rather than feeding grapes to the big négociants, the quality-to-price ratio here is genuinely absurd.

I brought back as much as I could. Once you taste it, you'll understand why.

On sale through New Year's Eve!!

Holiday Season is on fire! Cue my favorite song 😂

The 2025 Holiday Box sales have surpassed even our wildest expectations, and there are 4 GOLDEN TICKETS REMAINING!

Also, if you open your first bottle from the 12 Nights of Wine Box tomorrow, you'll wrap up with your final bottle on New Years Eve!

What in the world is going on here?

After an epic launch of our 12 Nights of Wine Holiday Box in 2023, our 2024 edition exceeded our even loftiest expectations.

So for 2025 - we had to pull out all the stops.

Our goal here is to stretch the realm of what you think is possible when it comes to quality and price, all the while trying to have a little fun.

We're doing 12 bottles of delicious winestore wine - and you'll get the whole box (and the chance at a $1,000 gift card) for $99.99.

But to add to the mayhem and excitement this year, we have made sure each box contains one $30 bottle of Napa Valley Cabernet.

Why has the Holiday Box become so popular?

It's a collection of best sellers packed into an advent calendar style box to make your holidays even more merry and bright! Each night you can enjoy being surprised with a new bottle. With a mix of both reds and whites, this holiday box is perfect for any wine drinker.

Much like last year, we are going all Willy Wonka on this thing as well and placing 9 Golden Tickets (one for each store) in the boxes, and those Golden Tickets are redeemable for a $1,000 winestore. gift card.

You read that correctly. Worst case scenario you get 12 delicious bottles of wine at the lowest prices in the US (and an extra discount from our already low price) - best case scenario is you get a $1,000 shopping spree for any wines you want, plus 12 delicious bottles!

Is this the perfect holiday gift?

I mean it may just be. I gave them to 5 friends last year and it was a grand slam.

Might be feeling a little bit like Charlie this holiday season!!

Every now and again we get a call from a winery and the situation goes like this: they made a wine exclusively for a restaurant, said restaurant was unable to buy all of the product in an agreed upon timeframe, and the winery wants to make the rest of the inventory go away quickly.

Enter Patriarch Cabernet.

Produced by Baron Ziegler (good info on him here) - the guy who founded Banshee Wines, built it into a 50,000-case juggernaut, sold it to billionaire Bill Foley, and now runs Marine Layer, Valkyrie Selections, and about six other wine projects - this is actually absolutely insane value for the money.

Baron called us over the summer and asked if we'd be interested in a one-time pop of this wine. No repeat purchases, no brand building. Just a one-time wine at an amazing price.

Here's the thing you need to understand about Sonoma County Cabernet: less than 0.5% of all Cabernet Sauvignon labeled Sonoma County will ever see a price under $10. The grape cost alone often runs $3,000–$6,000 per ton. By the time you add glass, oak, labor, compliance, bottling, freight, and distributor margins, a wine truly grown in Sonoma simply cannot be produced profitably at $9.99.

It doesn't happen...unless someone else already paid for it and needs to make it disappear.

Which is exactly what happened here.

Our normal closeout price is going to be $14.99 per bottle - but this week, through Sunday, we're rocking this thing at $9.99 to celebrate all things holiday madness.

Only hiccup: just 340 cases arrived in mid-November. 223 cases remain. That's it.

I'm taking home 2 cases myself - so make that 221.

Let's do this!

How about something awesome for TGIF?

Two Tenuta di Arceno wines, Arcanum and Valadorna, were breakout collectible hits for us in 2021 and 2022 - at a "deal" price of $64.99.

Fast forward to this fall and the wine is back, and we have worked out a doozie of a deal.

Tenuta di Arceno has an amazing story. The estate sits at the fork of two ancient rivers that once formed the nexus of Etruscan civilization over 2,500 years ago. The name itself - Arceno - comes from the Etruscan word "archè," meaning "point of origin." Which feels appropriate, because this is where some of Tuscany's most compelling wines originate today.

For centuries, the estate passed through the hands of Italian nobility. In 1829, it was purchased by Count Emilio Piccolomini Clementini - one of the most illustrious families of Siena. We're talking about a family that produced two popes, ran merchant banks across Europe, and basically defined Tuscan aristocracy. The Jamie Dimon of their time 😂. The Piccolominis built the romantic gardens, lakes, and magnificent villas that still stand today, commissioning the famous architect Agostino Fantastici to transform the grounds into an English-style romantic park that took over a decade to complete.

By the early 1990s, the estate had fallen into disrepair and was actually slated to become housing development. Enter Jess Jackson and Barbara Banke in 1994. This was one of the first estates the Jackson Family purchased outside California - a leap of faith at a time when Chianti Classico was going through something of an identity crisis. But Jackson and Banke saw what others didn't: 2,500 acres of spectacular Tuscan terroir with the bones of greatness still intact.

Here's where it gets interesting. They brought in Pierre Seillan - the legendary French vigneron who would go on to earn sixteen 100-point scores from Robert Parker at Vérité in Sonoma. Before planting a single vine, Seillan's team mapped and identified 63 individual micro-crus based on soil composition, topography, and mesoclimate. They've had the same core team for three decades now: Seillan as founding winemaker, Lawrence Cronin as resident winemaker, and Michele Pezzicoli managing the vineyards since 1995. That kind of continuity in this business is rare.

The winery is massive in scale but fanatical about precision - producing some of the most interesting and powerful wines in the Chianti Classico DOCG region and under the Toscana IGT designation. The estate is in the southern portion of Chianti Classico in the all-important commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga where both Arcanum and Valadorna, two of the leading wines of the estate, are produced. While Arcanum gets most of the attention, Valadorna might actually be the most compelling wine in the range.

Valadorna is a Merlot-led Bordeaux blend (typically around 65-75% Merlot with Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot) sourced from the cooler Valadorna and Capraia vineyard blocks where a stream runs through the property. This isn't jammy, overripe California Merlot. This is not Right Bank Bordeaux either. This is Merlot with a Tuscan accent - and in this place the grape takes on characteristics you simply don't find elsewhere. It's structured, complex, built to age, with this firm backbone that's distinctly Italian. The 2014 has had a decade to integrate and evolve, and at this point it is firing on all cylinders. The tannins have softened beautifully while maintaining structure, and there's a secondary complexity developing that you simply can't get in young wine.

I actually think James Suckling hit the nail on the head when he said "A rich, powerful super Tuscan that reminds me of some of the cult wines of Napa."

We can offer you the 2014 from this estate for $44.99 per bottle. The lowest price we have ever been able to offer it for by $20. My wife and I shared a bottle on Tuesday night and I can confirm this may be one of the better sub $50 wines you will have this year (and dare I say next year too 😂). It also pairs extremely well with a fire and all this cold weather.

I am drinking one tonight! We made it to the weekend!

You Got It Wink GIF by Johnny Slicks

Remember that Domaine des Florets "Alliance" Gigondas we brought you awhile back?  The one I tasted next to 2010 Marcoux Vieilles Vignes ($125 per bottle) and thought was better?

Well, we're back with the little brother - and this might be an even better story.

The Domaine des Florets "Reliance" Côtes-du-Rhône is the estate's entry-level wine, and for the first time we're able to offer it under $20. Actually, at $14.99, this may be one of the best values in the entire Southern Rhône right now.

Same winemaker (Jérôme Rathle, the sustainability guru turned vigneron who bought the estate in 2021 and immediately started crushing it). Same philosophy. Same meticulous attention to detail. Just sourced from younger vines and declassified fruit that doesn't make the cut for the Gigondas bottling.

Here's the thing about Côtes-du-Rhône - when it's good, it's the ultimate weeknight wine. Grenache and Syrah that drinks way above its station. The kind of bottle you open on a Thursday and think "why am I not drinking this every night?" But when it's great - when it's made by someone who actually gives a damn - it becomes the wine you reach for constantly because it over-delivers every single time.

This is that wine.

The "Reliance" has that same depth and concentration as the Alliance, just in a slightly more approachable, drink-now package. Juicy red fruits, garrigue herbs, that Southern Rhône warmth and generosity.

If you liked the Alliance, buy this by the six pack and drink with abandon. If you missed the Alliance, this is your chance to get in on what might be the most exciting new estate in the Southern Rhône.

Me? I know what I'm drinking tonight.

Chevy Chase shaking a gift

We're in that window between Thanksgiving and the New Year where you're hosting more than usual, attending more parties than you planned, and realizing you need wine that works for all of it without emptying your wallet.

Enter Tatiana Guillot Mâcon-Villages.

High quality white Burgundy for $12.99. That sentence alone is enough for me 😂, but let me give you the full picture.

The Guillot Family has been making Chardonnay in Burgundy for generations. This is a family estate doing what they've always done, just at a price point that actually makes sense.

Mâcon-Villages used to be everywhere. Every restaurant had it by the glass. Some of the biggest names in the business got their start here. Then it fell out of fashion as people chased bigger, richer wines from warmer climates. But climate change has been doing interesting things to Mâcon. It's morphing from light and slightly generic to richer and weightier while still holding onto that clean, crisp, mineral-driven style that makes French Chardonnay what it is. You get weight without the California butter bomb. You get richness without losing the tang and acidity that make white Burgundy so versatile.

This is the wine you serve at your holiday party that makes people ask what it is. This is the wine you bring to someone else's dinner that gets noticed. This is the wine you open on a random Wednesday because it's December and you deserve it 😂.

I am pretty sure I deserve it, so I know what I'm opening in a few hours!

We have found your new house Italian wine. I can't say it better than one of our team members said it just this morning:

___________________________________________

___________________________________________

I may go one step further. For $12.99, this is going to rock your red wine drinking world.

Castello di Querceto sits in the hills above Greve in Chianti, where the François family has been making wine since 1897. They were founding members of the Consorzio del Chianti Classico and helped pioneer what became known as Super Tuscans by introducing international varietals to the region. This isn't some upstart operation chasing trends. This is the OG group doing new things.

Their Toscana Rosso is a blend of Syrah, Merlot, and Sangiovese that spends eight months in French oak. Think dark raspberry and blackberry fruit with a plush, supple texture.

This is the kind of wine you want on hand for the next few weeks. It works with everything from weeknight pasta to your holiday prime rib. The soft tannins and bright fruit make it versatile enough to handle whatever you're cooking, and it can handle zero food at all and just sit in your glass while you watch the latest episode of Pluribus (anyone else watching this on AppleTV? It is kinda insane).

Lets get to it, shall we?

I know what I'm drinking tonight!

17 of the 26 wines (65%) are $9.99 or below!!

Do you really need Wine Spectator or some other publication to tell you the best wines of 2025? We don't think so... When we started this company over 19 years ago (are we getting old?), we trademarked the line "You're the expert", and we did so because you like what you like and in the grand scheme of wine drinking, that's all that is important. So, in the spirit of "You're the expert", for the 14th year in a row, we are going to let YOU do the talking. We have taken your 27 favorite wines at winestore. for 2025 - using total bottle volume as the deciding factor. We've given those that have not been in stock all year a shot at the list by looking at monthly run rate compared to the top 27. You know, it's all very scientific and stuff :)

Why 27? Why not...Top 25 feels dated...and we did 26 last year...soooooo 😂

Also fun fact? In a world where prices seem to go up it feels like every 2 weeks, the wines on this list saw no prices increases in 2025. We take a lot of pride in that fact. We're looking out for your pocketbook just as much as we look out for our own.

All these wines are on SALE, by the bottle, for the next few days - and ALL at the lowest online prices in the nation! We love you all THAT much!

These are the wines you and your friends have been gobbling up at record speed this year! They are in no particular order (you know, we hate lists and such things) - so enjoy!

2023 Cape Charles Cabernet
Release Price: $105.00
SALE Price: $24.99 (net)
SAVE 76%

Lowest Online Price in the USA!

Easily our most in-demand wine over the past four years, Cape Charles Cabernet continues to overdeliver in every way. Developed in collaboration with industry icon Baron Ziegler, this label was created to capture the incredible value emerging from the high-end bulk wine market—and the results have been nothing short of spectacular. The newest release is crafted exclusively from Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from Stag’s Leap Wine Cellar's iconic vineyards—some of the most storied sites in Napa Valley.

2023 The Palace Thief #2
Release Price: $78.00
SALE Price: $24.99 (net)
SAVE 68%

Lowest Online Price in the USA!

Most of the Napa OGs have been bought out or at least changed hands numerous times. The winery behind Palace Thief Napa, starting in 1969, has remained owned and run by the same family. Now, it’s a third-generation project but the critical piece, the vineyards, is really what has allowed this family to achieve such demonstrated excellence. The Cabs are firm, powerful and very classically Napa-esque.

2024 Bleu Blanc Thau
Release Price: $14.99
SALE Price: $7.99 (net)
SAVE 47%

Lowest Online Price in the USA!

This blend of Picpoul and Terret is so tasty, so refreshingly crisp (but still weighty enough to matter) and, dare we say it, a freaking value that it practically crawled into our bag and said take me home the first time we tasted it.

2023 Sonoma Cutrer Russian River Ranches Chardonnay
Winery Price: $28.00
SALE PRICE: $16.96 (net) per bottle
SAVE 40%
Lowest Online Price in the USA!

It's Sonoma Cutrer - what more do we really need to say? Oak, Vanilla, butter - all that you expect from a great California Chard and then a little extra thrown in for good measure...

2022 Cape Charles Chardonnay
Release Price: $40.00
SALE Price: $17.99 (net)
SAVE 55%

Lowest Online Price in the USA!

That’s right - 100% Napa Valley Chardonnay from one of the top producers in America

2022 Snowvale Cabernet
Release Price: $20.00
SALE Price: $10.99 (net)
SAVE 45%

Lowest Online Price in the USA!

It's no surprise that I love Snowvale Cabernet.  It's classic California; ripe fruit, full-bodied, hints of spice, firm tannins, and an intense yet balanced finish. The surprise is that it's only $13. This is one to buy by the case.  Don't tell your friends how much you paid.

2022 Bonnet Hill Cabernet
Release Price: $35.00+?
SALE Price: $14.99 (net)
SAVE 57%

Lowest Online Price in the USA!

Alexander Valley is distinct in its pure friendliness; the wines are genuinely enjoyable from day one, expansive of fruit and reliably supple throughout their lives. The winemaker here also has made most expensive (young wine) sold at auction. So however much you are paying for it, it’s still a bargain. Right?

2024 White and Sea White Blend
Release Price: $15.00
SALE Price: $7.99 (net)
SAVE 47%

Lowest Online Price in the USA!

It’s surprising that grapes like Sauvignon Blanc aren’t more widely planted in southern France, as they can be harvested fairly early to retain bright and citrusy acidity without really losing character or even complexity. Maybe wines like this will encourage more winemakers to try working with crisp and aromatic white grapes in Languedoc-Roussillon.

2024 Seigneur du Feu Cabernet
Release Price: $20.00
SALE Price: $9.99 (net) per bottle

The Silver Oak Blind Tasting back in January?

In this particular case we had a wine that was the last wine we added to the lineup, a virtual unknown, and a wine we have featured in our newsletter just ONE TIME in our 19 year history, that took home the crown. This was that wine.

2024 Benieres Pinot Noir
Release Price: $20.00
SALE Price: $9.99 (net)
SAVE 50%

Lowest Online Price in the USA!

Fresh and fruity Pinot Noir from the Pays d'Oc, a region warm enough and varied enough to allow even persnickety Pinot Noir to find its happy place.

2024 Domaine Priou Sauvignon Blanc
Release Price in EU: $17.49
SALE Price: $10.99 (net)
SAVE 37%

Lowest Online Price in the USA!

Sure, most people think that France is neatly laid out, codified and completely explored but, outside of Burgundy and Bordeaux, there are still plenty of vineyards that deserve more attention. The Loire Valley demands that kind of recognition and, in the era of climate change, it is increasingly a source of delicious wines. Sauvignon Blanc used to be notable only from Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé. Equal measures of fruit and mineral.

2023 Highland Falls Proprietary Red
Release Price: $20.00
SALE Price: $9.99 (net)
SAVE 50%

Lowest Online Price in the USA!

"Mountain-grown, it’s the richest kind,” as coffee commercials used to say, but it’s also true of Cabernet. Foley Family's pedigree doesn’t hurt either: the guys who bring you Merus, Chalone and Chalk Hill Wines are behind the powerhouse Highland Falls lineup too.

2024 Larme En Rose
Release Price: $20.00
SALE Price: $9.99 (net)
SAVE 50%

Lowest Online Price in the USA!

If you stick around the wine business long enough, you’ll have seen it all. Where once wine coolers were cooler than Liebfraumilch, now hard seltzer is hot (served cold). White Zin was once de rigeur, though it was never French; it was from the good ol’ US of A. But then that became too sweet and the category died. Or seemed to. Because then rosé rose up like a zombie eager for fresh meat, though the current iteration of the pink stuff is more often French than not. Provence is the epicenter of it and the French have figured out how we like it: dry, pale pink, light and refreshing.

2024 Dosoris Lane Proprietary Red
Release Price: $20.00
SALE Price: $9.99 (net)
SAVE 50%

Lowest Online Price in the USA!

Maybe one of the most hyped up wines this year, Dosoris Lane is all about showing what type of crazy quality you can produce for under $15. Think black pepper notes from a little Syrah. The black fruits in the middle suggest a little bit of Cabernet; the red fruits and white pepper hint at Grenache. Put it all together and you have some epic red wine from the sunny south of France, with expansive and bright flavors.

2024 Balcon Sur La Mer Rosé
Release Price: $20.00
SALE Price: $9.99 (net)
SAVE 50%

Lowest Online Price in the USA!

Balcon delivers everything you want in a great rosé in spades. This unctuous pink wine is dry, stony, fruity, lengthy. Comprised of Grenache, Grenache Gris and Mourvedre, there’s a lot more here than many a rosé that you’ve tasted before.

2023 T. Solomon Pinot Noir
Release Price: $75.00
SALE Price: $24.99 (net)
SAVE 67%

Lowest Online Price in the USA!

I have tasted the final version twice now, and I am willing to put my professional reputation on the line here and tell you that this may be the best sub $40 Pinot Noir you are ever going to try.

2023 Willowlake Napa Valley Cabernet
Release Price: $100.00+?
SALE Price: $24.99 (net)
SAVE 75%+

Lowest Online Price in the USA!

Another completely unique Cabernet opportunity brought to you by some of the best wine brokers in the business. Declassified Cabernet from one of the biggest names in Stag's Leap District. We just can't tell you who :)

2023 Les Peyrautins Pinot Noir
Release Price: $20.00
SALE Price: $9.99 (net)
SAVE 50%

You have been told that Pinot Noir is the most finicky of grapes; indeed, it’s supposed to be the “heartbreak grape.” The statement is not false but it’s also not completely true. To make great Pinot noir is bloody difficult and to do it consistently is virtually impossible, unless you’re in some famous place. But that’s true of most grapes. It’s true that Pinot noir grown in the wrong place is pretty dreadful, maybe more dreadful than most other grapes. But the middle ground has plenty of wealth to it – you need a friendly place for grape growing but not too friendly. With France’s Pays d’Oc, there are places where it’s easy to ripen grapes and areas that offer just enough challenge to coax Pinot Noir into showing its friendly and compelling side. This is an ideal example.

2024 Kingstree Cabernet

This is a tasty little gem unearthed by the pros at Banshee Wines. Banshee, started by three guys who just happened to like wine and wanted an excuse to be out west, hasn't been around long but they sure have kicked off righteously during their short career. They’ve always been focused upon cooler climate sites, especially with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and at the prices they offer their wines, it’s no surprise that things have gone swimmingly well.

2022 Darley Proprietary Red
Release Price: $45.00
SALE Price: $14.99 (net)
SAVE 67%

Lowest Online Price in the USA!

We argue about vintages and that’s because we don’t all like the same style of wines. You may hate Napa Cabernet in 2011 because you think they're weak and insipid; I might find them elegant and sleek. You might champion Napa Cab 2013s; most people do. I might complain that some are too ripe. But 2022 is one of those vintages that makes fans of us all. Sonoma Cabernet in 2022 has richness but also balance. Check out Darley’s 2022 Cabernet and make your own mind up.

2024 Maison Belliac Chardonnay
Release Price: $25.00
SALE Price: $9.99 (net)
SAVE 60%

Lowest Online Price in the USA!

When the French decided to build the Canal du Midi, they unsurprisingly chose a portion of the Pays d’Oc that is flatter and less mountainous than much of the regional landscape. The climate is different, needless to say, but not so very different from sunny California, and the wine has some of that same buttery character that West Coast Chardonnay exemplifies.

2024 Benières Chardonnay
Release Price: $20.00
SALE Price: $9.99 (net)

SAVE 50%
Lowest Online Price in the USA!

The vast vineyards of France’s Languedoc hold many well-known grapes, including Chardonnay that is friendly and accessible. This one is gathered from organic vineyards on the Aspères plateau with its excellent marl and limestone soils. The winemaking is straightforward – stainless steel fermenters and just enough lees stirring to enrich the texture and flavors. We love finding wines like this!

2024 Dosoris Lane Rosé
Release Price: $20.00
SALE Price: $9.99 (net)
SAVE 50%

Lowest Online Price in the USA!

The south of France has been home to a sea of vines for centuries, though its heyday was the late 19th century after the newly built railroad allowed shipments to fill the carafes of Parisian cafes. Cotes de Thau is gaining notoriety for its rosé wines grown beneath the former volcano of Agde, with a mix of garrigue, sand, nearby sea and lagoons. This is a blend of Cinsault and Merlot made in a crisp, clean, even racy style of pink wine.

2024 Montcharme Malbec
winestore. Price: $20.00
SALE Price: $9.99 (net) per bottle
SAVE 50%
Lowest Online Price in the USA!

Malbec may turn out to be an excellent tool for Languedoc Roussillon winemakers. Is it for sure? Not at all. Malbec is a southwestern France grape and a tertiary grape at that; Mediterranean France has little experience with it. But the region has elevation, so maybe we’re going to see more like this tasty little thing. let’s be clear about this: Malbec likes altitude. Why? No one really knows.

2024 Cape Charles Sauvignon Blanc
Release Price: $25.00
SALE Price: $9.99 (net)
SAVE 60%

Lowest Online Price in the USA!

After killing it with the AVERÆN project in Oregon, the Banshee gang is hard at work again in France. They’ve grabbed some vineyards in Gascony and we’re smart enough to snag some of their early efforts. There’s not a lot of Sauvignon Blanc grown in these spots, but what is there produces wines like this one: poised, more bright melon and citrus - just the way it should be.

2023 Granicus Proprietary Red
Release Price: $25.00
SALE Price: $9.99 (net)
SAVE 60%

Lowest Online Price in the USA!

We like to shop in the Languedoc-Roussillon; it’s a place in Mediterranean France that has been important for more than a century but, despite the noise about inexpensive Bordeaux wines, remains the place to shop for value. When they are growing on chalky-clay terroirs, and when they apply Bordeaux techniques to it (fancy stainless steel, new French oak, minute temperature control and the like), they make a fascinating wine.

Corte Giovanni Prosecco
Release Price: $15.00
SALE Price: $9.99 (net)
SAVE 33%

Lowest Online Price in the USA!

Though Prosecco is made throughout the northeastern Italian regions of Veneto and Friuli, there are two areas that produce wines with more vibrancy and complexity to them and that are solely elevated to DOCG status as a result: Conegliano-Valdobbiadene and Colli Asolani. A very dry version of Prosecco (the meaning of Extra Brut) is as modern as it gets, but it reflects the growing awareness of Colli Asolani as producing wines.
