That said, the main goal here was to marry a traditional and elegant French style of winemaking while highlighting some of the vibrant complexity you find in larger reds from the Languedoc - and Beuchottes accomplishes that in spades.

Antoine de la Farge L'Enfant Rebelle Rose
Here Antoine de la Farge employs what he calls a “back of the truck maceration”, by leaving the juice and skins together just long enough to transport the must from the vineyard to the winery. You get some strawberry and red currant notes, and the wine is a light, pretty pink from only an hour or two on the skins.

The first time I ever saw this bottle and tried the wine, I kinda felt like I was transported onto a luxurious vacation. Someplace like Saint Barths. But I'm not paying and someone is just pouring me lovely rosé in infinite quantities as my feet rest in the sand. Balcon delivers everything you want in a great rosé in spades. This unctuous pink wine is dry, stony, fruity, lengthy. Comprised of Grenache, Grenache Gris and Mourvedre.

Huteau Boulanger is a rather new idea in Loire Valley wine: they are based in Muscadet but produced more than that crisp and racy wine. They buy grapes from throughout the Loire, fashioning honest (and affordable) wines in the region. The company was founded by Catherine and François Boulanger and has 45 hectares of vineyards. Indeed, their spot in Muscadet isn’t historical or familial for them; they traveled extensively before choosing the terroir of Muscadet Sévre et Maine. Their Sauvignon Blanc is ready to drink upon release (some Sauvignon Blancs from terroirs like Sancerre can take a few years to loosen up) and that too is one of the merits of their project.

The fame of Priorat is both recent and ancient; the beautiful Escaladei (Steps of God) mountain formation frames the monastery of Santa Maria of Escaladei; it was founded in the 12th century by Alfonso the Chaste (poor guy). And over the last few decades, the slate and quartz soils called llicorella generate super low yields and super concentrated wines. A do not miss $7.99 Chardonnay
It's my 16th wedding anniversary today, so I'm breaking open a bottle of honestly what is one of the top 3 red wines I've had this year...and it kinda came out of nowhere.
We knew we loved it when we tried it for the first time at Wine Paris back in February, but when I re-tried it 3 weeks ago it was absolutely FIRING. I almost finished the entire bottle myself (this is a judgement free zone folks!)
So what can I tell you about this EPIC wine?
Every year at the largest wine trade show in France, we spend a good amount of time just wandering. What are we looking for? Iconic packaging. We’ve had good luck in seeking out wineries that spend a lot of time thinking about their packaging…as they often spend just as much, if not more time, thinking about the wine that goes inside. It doesn’t always hold up that way, but it does more often than not.
This year, we had one absolutely epic find…Chateau Le Grace Dieu…and the story about how the winery came to be is almost as epic as the wine itself.
The winery?
The estate sits inside the town limits of Saint-Émilion itself, the medieval UNESCO World Heritage village where the Romans planted vines two thousand years ago and a Benedictine hermit named Émilion carved out a cave in the eighth century and gave the place its name.
The vineyard runs east to west across the appellation's best ground.
On the east: the clay-limestone plateau of Les Menuts. Limestone is the whole ballgame in Saint-Émilion. It forces roots deep and holds water in reserve.
On the west: the gravel rises that run up against Château Cheval Blanc and Château Figeac.
The same gravel croupes as Cheval Blanc. Cheval Blanc is a $1,000 a bottle. Just keep that for reference 😂
The 2022 vintage?
Decanter called it superb: wines of remarkable resilience, deep fruit, firm tannin, and an unexpected sense of classicism. The Wine Cellar Insider says 2022 will be seen as legendary.
The story?
In 1870 (we’re going waaaaaay back), a woman named Henriette Ternois was working as a vineyard laborer at Château Figeac. Figeac, is one of the greatest estates in Saint-Émilion, today a Premier Grand Cru Classé A alongside Cheval Blanc, Pavie, and Ausone. Henriette was hired help. She picked other people's grapes on other people's land.
That year, she bought a parcel of her own. I don't know how a vineyard worker in 1870 France scraped together the money to buy land in Saint-Émilion (to be fair I don’t even know how much that would have cost). But she did it! She married a man named Jean Thibeau and the two of them kept buying, parcel by parcel, over the course of their lives.
The property then passed to their daughter, Lucienne. Then to their granddaughter, Lucette. Then to their great-granddaughter, Odile. The family calls it five generations of viticultrices, women winegrowers, in an industry where properties pass father to son as reliably as gravity, and where you could count the female proprietors of that era on one hand.
These women held the property through two world wars. Through the winter of 1956, when a catastrophic freeze killed the entire vineyard. They replanted and waited years for a crop. Through droughts, hailstorms, and the collapse of the Bordeaux market more than once.
Today it's Odile and her son Bastien, the sixth generation. One hundred and fifty-five years of the same family on the same ground. We got to meet Odile while tasting the wines, and we didn’t know this story and I feel like we missed a great opportunity to pepper her with questions!
This wine?!?!
Single vineyard, 5 acre parcel of Merlot. It's raised in 100% new French oak, and not from a single cooper. They select barrels from multiple tonnelleries each vintage, matching the oak's grain and toast level to the character of that specific year. That is a Grand Cru Classé practice being applied to a five-acre plot by a family of farmers.
The estate calls it une cuvée confidentielle. I love secret wines 😂
So there you have it. Inexpensive it is not...but it's Friday, and even if it is not your anniversary why don't you take the day to celebrate you, celebrate your family, celebrate your life...and drink an awesome bottle of wine with a nice meal.

In an era of celebrities and business folk flaunting wealth, mega yachts, Gulfstreams, and private clubs, Dolly flaunted something else entirely: kindness. Giving Back. Remembering exactly where you come from and taking care of the people that are still there.

Believe me...or don't believe me...but this may be the deal of the year, and I'm not sure it's gonna be even close.
For starters, real Oregon Pinot Noir for $9.99 basically does not exist. A cursory search of google will confirm this for you.
This begs the question though - why are we seeing it for $9.99. Is something wrong with it? A little long in the tooth? Flavors are off? We ask those questions all the time when we see deals this good pop up.
One taste of Six Stones Pinot Noir and all I can tell you, this wine is darn near perfect. It's better than some $40 Pinot Noirs we have in the store right now.
The main issue, as it is with all the best deals, is that inventory is finite. We have 280 cases at this price and then that is it. (To put that into context you all bought 423 cases of Snowvale last week at $9.99...so expect this to be gone in a hot minute).
Six Stones is a label from Foris Vineyards, and Foris is a name serious Oregon drinkers know. Ted Gerber went south in 1971, armed with 30 years of weather data, and bought his first 15 acres near an abandoned mining town called Holland, in the hills above Cave Junction. He planted vines in 1974. At the time, he was every bit the pioneer down south that Lett, Erath, Adelsheim, and Ponzi were up in the Willamette Valley. Those guys became household names, but Gerber just kept farming.
Fifty years later, Foris is still family owned, still farming the same land: 400 acres in a pristine alpine valley at the base of the Siskiyou Mountains, in the Illinois Valley, the coolest and most coastal corner of the Rogue Valley AVA. Warm days, genuinely cold mountain nights, and Pinot that comes out pure, silky, and vibrant. Gerber was also one of the first believers in Dijon clones, and his propagation program supplied cuttings to top California wineries. The man quietly shaped more of West Coast Pinot than most people will ever know.

What makes this stuff so special?
Many of you know and love "Escorlada" - the $20 showstopper from one of the first families of Spanish wine that we brought into the United States (the wine with the ships on the label).
Well, that wine has a big brother...and by big brother, we mean BIG.
This Spanish powerhouse comes from nearly century-old garnacha vines, yielding some of the lowest tonnage yields I have ever heard of, and is aged in 100% new Taransaud French Oak (think the Ferrari of the barrel world).
Let me put the yields in perspective for you.
Take Le Musigny - one of the most hallowed Grand Cru sites in all of Burgundy, where bottles start around $300 and can run into the thousands. In a good year, Musigny yields about 3,500 liters of wine per hectare.
The ancient Garnacha vines that go into Ladron? They yield just 700 liters per hectare.
That means every 2.5 acres of vines at this site only produces 933 bottles of wine. These are Burgundy Grand Cru yields from Spanish old vines. In Napa, producers would charge $500 for this bottle based on scarcity alone and call it a bargain.
The first time we tasted it we were floored - first by the color (nearly opaque), then by the flavor profile (think the wine equivalent of the movie Roadhouse - powerful, structured, unforgettable), and finally by the price we were offered.
It only further reinforced what we already knew: some of the most outstanding values in all of winedom continue to come out of Spain.

THE rosé of summer 2026
We've told you about this small domaine before. The owners of the property speak almost no English at all, and they also produce wines in extremely minuscule quantities. Minuscule as in some of their wines they make less than 300 bottles per year.
We've actually never been able to send a newsletter out about these wines after 2 years of carrying them until now, as they sold out almost instantly.
I feel like the fact we found these people is almost divine intervention. They were in a booth the size of a small coat closet at the world's second largest wine trade show, mostly meeting with their restaurant and retail clients in Paris. They were kind enough to let us taste some wines three years ago (even though they had none to sell at the time) and we were absolutely floored by the quality.
Their story?
Wine families in Burgundy have generations-long histories to inform their winemaking. Often the style of their wine is determined by the character of the small parcels in their control. With only about 22 acres of vineyards, Virely-Rougeot is small and dedicated to the vines that they have owned for more than a century. Louis Virely set up in Pommard when taking over the domaine of his parents-in-law at the beginning of the 20th Century, and today it's the third generation, Patrick and his wife Virginie, running everything. Though they own some Meursault and Beaune vines (those will be here this fall!!), Pommard has always been their focus and their top vineyards lie within that appellation, one of the southernmost of Côte d'Or red wine vineyards.
Which brings me to today's wine, and a dirty little secret about Burgundy.
Appellation boundaries in Burgundy are drawn by committees, not by soil. The vines don't know where the lines are. And this Bourgogne Pinot Noir is the best example of that I can show you: the parcel it comes from sits at the very edge of the Pommard village appellation. The domaine's own technical sheet says it plainly: produced exclusively at the limit of Pommard Village. A few feet one way, the wine gets to say Pommard on the label and charge accordingly. A few feet the other way, it's "just" Bourgogne.
Same limestone soils. Same family. Same cellar.
And here's the part I love: they make this wine exactly the way they make their Premier Crus. Hand harvested (their words: for total respect of the grapes). Fermented for about fifteen days in wooden vats. Then into oak barrels through the winter until malolactic fermentation finishes. This is not the phoned-in entry level wine of the range. It's 1.87 hectares, about four and a half acres, of estate vines getting the exact same treatment as vineyards that sell for multiples of the price.
I know this was a lot to read, but I have all the "feels" for these wines. Wineries are a lot like fashion houses: some things just end up costing more because people are able to market them in the right way, to the right people, not necessarily because of any tender lovin' care. Here you're getting honestly the most TLC I've ever seen put into some wines, at a price to quality ratio that is simply outrageous by Burgundy standards.
If you've ever wanted to know what real, estate-grown, family-made Burgundy tastes like without the three-digit price tag, this is the bottle.
I have shared multiple bottles with friends and family over the last week, and every bottle has made me smile. It's just outrageous.

One thing I have been thinking about lately is expensive rosé. It feels like it is everywhere right now.
Rosé was never meant to be expensive.
Think about what makes a wine cost a lot of money: new oak barrels, extended aging in the cellar, capital tied up for years before even one bottle can be sold.
Rosé requires none of these things. The wine gets a few hours of skin contact for color, ferments in stainless steel, and is bottled usually within 2-3 months of harvest.
Then 15 years ago Whispering Angel jumped on to the scene and the marketing folks got involved. Whispering Angel now has a rosé in their lineup that sells for over $100 a bottle. The Hamptons runs out of it every summer, and somehow a wine that costs less to make than just about anything else in the product lineup, is carrying a price tag that would make a Burgundy blush.
I say all of this, to say this...it doesn't have to be this way. Bleu Blanc Thau rosé is a PERFECT example.
Three years ago, we learned that the winery behind white wine value superstar Bleu Blanc Thau also made a rosé, so we of course had to try it. So we did...and it was amazing (these guys are good).
Then we found out the price...and it is as if the rosé gods wanted to take us back to the OG provencal rosé: a wine that is inexpensive, endlessly quaffable, and pairs perfectly with everything, or nothing at all.
What are the details?

By now most all of you know about how epic Darley Proprietary Red is...as it has become one of the best selling red wines in our store over the last several years.

Hear me out.
Let me make the case for the most underrated white wine grape in the world.
Pinot Blanc gets no respect. It has no famous appellation of its own, no cult producer, no Instagram moment. In Alsace it's the workhorse: the wine the growers actually drink at lunch, the base of most Crémant, the bottle on the table at every winstub in Colmar. Nobody writes about it because nobody has figured out how to make it expensive.
That is the beauty of this wonderful grape.
Here's what Pinot Blanc actually gives you. Dry. A little white peach. A little almond and white flower. Real texture in the middle, more body than Sauvignon Blanc but nothing like the weight of an oaked Chardonnay. No oak at all, in fact. It's the wine you open when you don't want to think, and then it turns out to be better than you expected. It goes with everything: chicken, pork, shellfish, cheese boards, a Thursday.
Now, the producer.
The Mann family has been farming vines in Wettolsheim since 1793. George Washington was in his first term 😂
The winery as it exists today was founded in 1948, when Joseph Wunsch and Joseph Mann went into business together. Wunsch died in 1970 and Mann took over the whole operation, and the Mann family has run every step of it since: growing, pressing, fermenting, aging, bottling, all of it in their own cellars in Wettolsheim. Today it's the third and fourth generations working side by side.
Wettolsheim sits just outside Colmar in the heart of the Haut-Rhin, which is the good half of Alsace. The estate farms about twenty hectares across the region, and here is the kicker: those holdings include parcels in three Grands Crus, Steingrubler, Hengst, and Pfersigberg. Hengst in particular is one of the most celebrated sites in all of Alsace.
And in 2008 they converted the entire vineyard to certified organic farming, if you're into things like that.
Why this wine in particular?
Well, we found these guys at the largest wine trade show in France, and really stumbled on to them when we saw the packaging at a random marketing station. We then sought them out and after one taste...we were hooked.
This lovely bottle is the exact opposite of a wine that needs an occasion.
A great Alsace Pinot Blanc is one of the most useful bottles you can have in the house. It is bone dry but never austere. It has enough body to stand up to real food and enough acid to keep you coming back to the glass. It is not trying to impress anyone, which is precisely why it works.
Serve it cold. Pour it for people who say they don't like white wine. Watch the fireworks 😎.

In the climate change era, Macon seems to be morphing from light and slightly generic to richer and even slightly buttery. But only slightly. We're in that weird time of year where I start to get back to school notifications, but everyone still seems to be on vacation, but it feels like my summer vacation was like 10 years ago 😂

First, a PSA. My wife has been making me watch the show Love Island this summer. It's basically all the insanity of every reality show ever all rolled up into one show. It is horrifying and hilarious all at the same time. I'm not sure I recommend it 😂.
Now, on to what I am drinking while we watch Love Island. Highland Falls Proprietary Red...and at $9.99 per bottle this is an easy case purchase for me.
Prices for things have begun to border on absurd. Sometimes I feel like businesses are just seeing what they can get away with!
That's not how we roll here are winestore. Here, it's a never ending search for the highest possible quality at the lowest possible prices.
Highland Falls Proprietary Red is one of those amazing wines.
I can think of no wine that took off like a rocket ship more than when Highland Falls won the Caymus Blind Tasting back in October of 2024. I mean, it was already popular, but it has now taken on a life of its own.
I did not have Highland Falls winning that tasting on my bingo card, but that is why blind tastings are so much fun - anything can happen.
It doesn't hurt that the new vintage from this long time favorite is absolutely lights out - which has helped propel it to become the most affordable winner of that tasting...ever!
I get it why people love it so much and why it did so well...and it has some pedigree.
It was our 2020 Wine of the Year. It sold more bottles than any other wine in 2021, and the momentum seems to only be picking up speed...sales were up 211% in 2025. They are up another 32% YTD in 2026.
That is not a typo 😂
It also holds the store record for most bottles ever sold over a 5 day period...so there's that...
The list goes on and on.
On sale for $9.99 it is at the top of any value list for me.

An entire Spring’s worth of negotiating domestic wine deals deals has turned into a situation where they all start showing up at the same time 😂
First world problems!
This is a special one though, as I used to be on the mailing list for Dutcher Crossing back when I first got into the wine business, and the winery was just getting going!
The winery has an unbelievable story, and it starts with the owner, Debra Mathy.
Originally from Wisconsin, she took a high school class trip to France, tasted wine for the first time in a way that meant something (they start ‘em early in France!), came home and told her father she was going to own a winery someday.
Then she did what we all (for the most part) end up doing: she got a real job. Debra became an elementary school teacher and life kinda went on its way.
Then her father was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma.
Knowing his personal time was limited, he told her not to wait any longer to chase her dreams. Don't wait for the right time, don’t wait for retirement. Go find your winery. He spent his final years helping her look. They traveled through Europe, then narrowing to Napa and Sonoma.
He died in late 2006.
Three months later, in March 2007, Debra closed on Dutcher Crossing in Dry Creek Valley. She'd cornered the founders at a Winter Wineland event that January and convinced them to sell a winery that wasn't even for sale. Escrow closed in 40 days.
She became the first single woman to own a winery in Dry Creek Valley. She was 40 years old, from Wisconsin, and she was very much not one of the good old boys.
She took over 35 acres and five wines. Today Dutcher Crossing farms 75 acres of estate vineyards, produces more than 30 wines across seven AVAs in Sonoma, Napa, and Mendocino, and has become one of the most decorated small producers in Sonoma County.
The two wines we have for you today are two of my favorites, and at the prices we are selling them for today, it is outright silly. For context, I paid more than this for these wines when I was in their wine club 20 years ago! The Proprietors Reserve in 2008 was $30!
First up, 2022 Cooney Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley
This is the flagship wine. A single-vineyard Cabernet from Alexander Valley, the appellation that gave us Silver Oak and Jordan and Vérité, and arguably the finest Cabernet ground in Sonoma County (although I know some people that may argue that point).
The winery sells this bottle on their website for $62 per bottle. (website is still on 2021 vintage) We can bring it to you for $24.99 and there are 112 cases available (when it is gone, it is gone).
The next wine? 2021 Proprietor's Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.
This is one of their estate wines- and is every bit as big and rich as the Cooney.
The winery sells it on their website for $43 per bottle. We can bring it to you for $19.99 and we have 224 cases available

I believe we are officially in the "dog days" of summer.

Charles McKahn knew at 15 he wanted to make wine. After graduating from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a degree in fermentation science, he moved to Napa Valley in 2011 and landed at Chappellet on Pritchard Hill - one of the most respected estates in the valley. He spent five harvests there, working his way from cellar intern to Assistant Winemaker under Phillip Titus. From there he went to William Harrison in Rutherford as head winemaker. In 2022 he was named one of the North Bay Business Journal's "40 Under 40."
In 2014, Chuck and his wife Brittany, along with his parents Kevin and Denise, founded McKahn Wines. They're primarily known for Rhône varieties - Syrah, Viognier, Grenache - but when Chuck saw what was available from the 2023 vintage in Napa Valley, he pounced.
The result is Morning Glass.
The name comes from surfing - that calm, pristine surface of the water early in the morning before anyone else is out. It's 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from a prime site in southern Napa Valley, aged 18 months in French oak (40% new). The winemaking is meticulous: destemmed to stainless, 14 days on the skins, racked three times before bottling.
Their release price was $80.

Insanely hot weather is back on tap for the weekend, and that means I need crisp white wine that is able to be consumed at some velocity.
Giuliano Rosati Pinot Grigio may just be that wine.
