We've got one for you today!

We told you we asked our suppliers to bring the heat for our Labor Day Sale (but like who brought the actual heat, can we get rid of this weather?!) - and the Bonnie Family showed up in a BIG way.

How about the lowest price ever offered in the US on Le Comte de Malartic?

Napa winemaking icon Jayson Pahlmeyer had a quote about second label wines (specifically about the Jayson red blend that was his $50 second label to the $150 Pahlmeyer Prop Red) that I love. He said "“The Jayson goes into the same brand new French oak barrels [as the main label, Pahlmeyer], has the same barrel-aging regimen, same blending, same care and dedication from my winemaker,” Pahlmeyer explains. “It’s 90 percent of the quality at 50 percent of the price.”

90% of the quality at 50% of the price is a standard I can get behind.

One of the best wines I tasted in 2023 was the 2018 Chateau Malartic La Graviere, but at $59.99 that is not in my weekly wine budget.

Their second label, 2018 Le Comte de Malartic, is squarely in my weekend wine budget though!

In 2018 for this wine, we’re talking about almost the exact same grape blend, same vat period, same vinification methods, and really the only difference being yields (the Comte is from some of the younger vines on the Estate that have higher yields), and aging time - the Comte sees 15 months vs 18 months for the big boy.

After tasting the wine I think Jayson Pahlmeyer is pretty spot on.

Is it as good as the flagship wine? It is not.

At $19.99 though it is one of the highest quality red wines we've got right now, and we're thankful to the Bonnie Family for letting us get this in our customers hands at this price. It is so epic!!

It reminds me a bit of a wine called Mas Doix Salanques from Priorat. Not in that they taste the same, but Salanques was a second label to the $100 Mas Doix, and at $29.99 it was not only delicious, I have bottles that are now 20 years old and still taste fresh and young. As a collector and wine lover, finding $25 wines that can go the distance is part of the fun!

I'm taking 12 home at this price. I can't help myself. It is a holiday weekend after all!!

TGIF!

Sometimes a winery has an absolutely top notch product, and they just misfire on the price.

Enter, Bonterra "The Roost" Chardonnay.

The 2020 Bonterra “The Roost” Chardonnay is a 100% certified biodynamic single vineyard Chardonnay from the Blue Heron Vineyard in Mendocino County, CA. Bonterra is as close to an OG among the wineries devoted to sustainability and true regenerative viticulture as any among American wineries. This single vineyard wine comes from a spot nestled between the shore of the upper Russian River and a blue heron nesting site and preserve; hence the name of Blue Heron Ranch. It’s biodynamically farmed, and shows the sort of rich and delicious cut that’s typical of Mendocino Chardonnay.

All that makes for an awesome wine - but when they released it at $50, they realized $50 for a bottle of wine is no joke, and it wasn't moving at the velocity they wanted. Retailers all over the US were selling this wine from $77 all the way down to $32. Bonterra adjusted, and the new vintage is priced at $35 per bottle and moving fast...but this misfire created a big opportunity for our Labor Day Sale!

Today we can offer you the 2020 vintage of this single vineyard, biodynamic Chardonnay for the lowest price it has ever been offered for in the United States - $19.99 per bottle!

If you are into California Chardonnay, I am here to tell you that you will find not Chardonnay under $20 of this quality. I also don’t know of many single vineyard biodynamic wines under $20 - red or white. Honestly, I can’t think of one.

So what we have for you today is:
1) Lowest Price ever offered on this wine
2) Certified biodynamic and organic single vineyard Chardonnay for less than $20

I think I gotta do six at this deal...and I'm drinking one tonight! (I think it's too hot for red wine right now 😂)

Let's do this!

We reached out to our suppliers in advance of our annual Labor Day sale and told them one thing - "Show up big, or don't show up at all..."

The winemaking team behind P/S, P/N, C/S and Z/N wines told us they would cut us the deal of the year if we bought big enough - and they were not kidding.

Our deal #1 of our Labor Day sale is an entire bottle of wine for less than I was charged for a baked potato at a restaurant recently. Neither of those things is a joke 😂

We have Z/N Zinfandel for $5.99 per bottle. That's right, $5.99 per bottle for some absolutely ridiculous full bodied red wine.

We were able to secure 4 pallets at this price - but that works out to just 224 cases at $5.99 per bottle for the entire state of North Carolina.

So be warned that this is the only wine in the lineup that is not guaranteed to last the whole week. Once we run out, we run out.

I have a feeling that at just $71.88 for an entire case of wine (although yes, you can buy as little as 1 bottle), this one is going to walk itself out the door.

I'm just thinking of my group of friends we are hosting this weekend - and given the velocity at which these people tend to drink red wine during a holiday weekend, I may be in for more than one case 👀

Over the last several years Zinfandel and Zinfandel based blends are on a tear. Heck, many of our best selling red wines are Zin based - and you might not even know you are drinking it! Think wines like Prisoner, Scout's Honor, Banknote.

So let's do this people!!!

As always, THANK YOU for the opportunity to serve you. We don't take it for granted, and we will continue to work hard for you every single day!

Happy Tuesday all!

The most exciting white you will try this year? 👀

I think this may be the most exciting white wine you try this year - and if it is not THE most exciting, it will certainly crack your top 5 😁

We haven't really dabbled much in Bordeaux Blanc over the last 18 years. Heck, there was a time when Bordeaux Blanc was a joke. That was in the ’70s.

Then there was the ’80s when a few producers started figuring out how to make good Sauvignon Blanc and the ’90s when they were very good at it. And then the ‘00s happened and suddenly all the white wine from Bordeaux was delicious, but expensive.

The 2020s? The wines are better than ever. This blend of 40% Sauvignon Blanc, 40% Sémillon and 20% Muscadelle is classic and still very modern and completely compelling. It’s been matured in new French oak, so it’s not simple.

The added bonus? We are able to bring this wine to you at the lowest price it has ever been offered globally. So we were able to skip over that part about Bordeaux Blanc needing to be expensive.

You could go on Vivino right now and get a 12 bottle price of $49.34 per bottle (here). Or you could find the previous lowest price globally of $39.31 USD (here).

OR, you guys know how we do it here, and you can grab a bottle for $24.99!

It even comes in an awesome six pack wood box, if those are your thing! (picture below!)

So TGIF everyone!

I know what I'm drinking tonight!

Did someone ask for 100% Pinot Noir Rosé, for only $9.99, from winemaking superstar Antoine de La Farge?

'Cause if you did, your ship has come in!

Making rosé is a simple enough process. Since the color is in the skins for all but a handful of grapes, you simply crush the grapes and leave the juice and skins to sit together for a few hours. How many hours? Well, that depends upon the rosé color that you’re seeking. Here Antoine employs what he calls a “back of the truck maceration”, by leaving the juice and skins together just long enough to transport the must from the vineyard to the winery. You get some strawberry and red currant notes, and the wine is a light, pretty pink from only an hour or two on the skins.

Here is what I know for sure:
- I don't know of anyone else using that winemaking method for rosé like this - and I love it.
- I don't know of any other 100% Pinot Noir rosé at $9.99 per bottle - if they are out there let me know 'cause we want to taste them!
- I'm not sure I could love this wine any more

The weather this weekend in NC may be the best of the entire summer (except it is supposed to rain in Wilmington, but you guys get to live at the beach!!). So let's have one more summer celebration this weekend with some friends and some lights out rosé - shall we?

I'm picking up some for Labor Day weekend too - because I can't help myself!

Let's do this!!

How about maybe the best Sancerre you are going to drink in 2024, at the lowest price globally, all on a beautiful Wednesday?

I know you're with me!

Vivino said the avg. reported user price on this wine is $33.55 and the 2022 vintage was in the top 9% of all wines in the world.

So what's the deal?

Every region has its champions, even if it’s unfair to single out particular producers when the ancient Loire Valley has so many heroes. But Antoine Lafarge is one of those winemakers - even if you've never heard his name named before.

If Sauvignon Blanc is your thing - this is by some estimations one of the best that is made on planet earth. It exists on a whole other level...and when you factor in the price? Given everything that has happened with Sancerre prices as of late?

🤯

The only hiccup is that for the ENTIRE 2023 vintage just 169 cases came into the United States.

That's right - 2,028 bottles to split among every Sancerre lover in the US.

I'm taking 12 home because my wife swoons over this wine, and I can't get enough of it.

So now there are 168 cases.

First come, first served 😁 - I know what I'm drinking tonight!

Let's do this!

For the better part of a decade now, Snowvale Cabernet has dominated the sales charts - and the wine shows no signs of slowing down. Year to date bottle sales from this Cabernet, one of the best they have ever produced, are up an astonishing 21%!!

It may be the best Cabernet value on the market right now.

Over the last decade this wine has only seen the $9.99 price point 8 different times - but wine legends Baron Ziegler and Rob Fischer the last two years put it on sale at this price for one week each year...and they try to time it to be right around back to school week!

Thank you Baron and Rob 😂

Snowvale at $9.99 represents a pretty unreal value. As we've told you before, there are even stores in NC selling this wine for $31! (Picture below)

In an ocean full of uninspiring Cabernet at this price point, Snowvale just works. Tuesday night Tacos? Boom. Wednesday night burgers. Done. Saturday night Netflix. But of course. (anyone watching anything that is must see?)

So let the mayhem begin! One week only at $9.99 - until next year!

Happy Tuesday all!

Is this one of the top Pinot Noir finds of 2024? The answer to that question is yes...and it is from Reuilly of all places!

Okay, so nobody knows Reuilly as a Pinot Noir appellation, we’ll grant you that. But Burgundy is scarcely affordable anymore and those of us who like to drink it have fewer and fewer options.

So we’ve gone out into the wild to find options that please us and that, we hope, will please you too. This is lighter in style than California Pinot Noir (think more Oregon) and built on charm and grace, not power.

Since the de la Farge family are such leaders in this part of the world, yet so few in the USA know about their reds, we think we’re letting you in on a happy little secret. Don't tell too many people though, we need to keep this circle of trust as tight as possible 😂.

Should we keep it short and sweet today?

I know what I'm drinking tonight!

TGIF!

Over the last several months, many of you have continued to learn what we learned last year - Antoine Lafarge is putting out some of the highest quality / affordable white wine on planet earth.

While his portfolio contains an embarrassment of riches, his entry level offering "L'Enfant Rebelle" may be the star of the show.

Why, do you ask?

Well, the European AOC system delineates the boundaries of any winegrowing region; the idea is that the best and appropriate area is reserved for the AOCs. That means that there are other places that can make high quality wine but simply don’t fit within the AOC boundaries. That includes this site just outside of the established Loire Valley vineyards where delicious Sauvignon Blanc can be made, similarly to Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé, but not at similar prices to those better-known wines.

That's what we have here, and good golly is it something else. Oh, did we mention it is the lowest price in the United States as well? Heck, you could pay almost 17 pounds in the UK for this (thats basically $20 US - click HERE for the offering), or you could just grab it at your neighborhood winestore. for $12.99 😁

But don't take our word for it.

I got this text exchange from a friend the first week this wine landed. The "he" referenced below is our Store VP in Charlotte:

So ignore at your peril!

Summer is not over yet! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

And while rosé is certainly a summer drink, lots of people now drink these uber quaffable treats year round.

While looking for the next big rosé find, we could not pass up an opportunity to bring you this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé from Villa Gaubert. This is, I've been told, the first time this wine has been available in the US!

Dominique Haverlan bought the old Château Gaubert in Portets in 1988, which was then in ruins. He made it into something important, but he didn’t’ forget to make wine that you will want to drink at a reasonable velocity. That’s what rosé is, and this one has it in spades.

Rosés are cold and citrusy and tangy and refreshing and, well, once they’re properly cold, they’re delicious. Did I mention that they need to be cold? Don’t skimp on the ice, people, that's just part of the deal.

At $10.99 per bottle it is surely a treat I will be enjoying the rest of this week, and into the rest of summer. I always need more $10.99 bottles of wine in my life - but $10.99 rosé, from Cabernet, that is beyond delicious?

YES PLEASE!

Sooooo....we tasted this wine back in February and LOVED it. Just an absolute home run.

Only issue was the price. Most places in Europe are currently selling the 2019 vintage of this wine for between 15.50 (like here) and 18 Euros - or somewhere between $16.89 and $19.62 USD.

The winery wanted us to retail it for $18 USD.

So the wine was really good. Was it $18 good? Probably. Kinda sorta. But if it were $14.99 per bottle the price and the quality would both be off the charts.

So we told them if we could get this wine to $14.99 it was a go. They said no at first, and moved on.

Like any good deal though, it took them a few months but they finally came around! Go time!!!

So why do we like it so much?

The Bayle and Carreau families bought this 17th century manor house, named for Louis d’Eyquem, nephew of Michel de Montaigne, writer and philosopher and often called the inventor of the essay. With clay-limestone soil and a view of the spot where the Dordogne and the Garonne rivers meet, this is planted to 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Malbec.

Think complex flavors, big fruit, but soft and silky tannins that make for an easy - yet exciting drink.

We will have it on the tasting machine at all 8 stores - soon 9! - all week long just in case you don't trust us.

One thing is for sure though - I know what I'm drinking tonight!!

Did someone ask for a brand new white wine, in amazing packaging with etched glass, under $13, from a unique grape varietal, that tastes delicious?

We thought so!

The Viallet family have been working the vineyards of Savoie (it's the kinda place you dream of visiting) since 1966, when Marcel and Yvonne purchased their first estate, Domaine Clos Réservé, in Apremont. Their son Philippe studied in Burgundy and then came back to help in 1984, pushing them into biodynamically farming at high altitude in the Savoie. They’ve embraced the local grapes, including the Jacquère grape, which we love for its crazy lemony acidity.

So, what should you expect here? Delightful acidity, alpine flavors, and remarkable value.

For what it is worth, my wife poured herself a glass of this last weekend, not knowing what it was, and just stopped and said "Now this is good!". So, you know, there is that...😂

We'll have it on the tasting machine at all 8 stores all week long!

I know what I'm drinking tonight!

We've been waiting on this one for over a year.

We first tasted the Guillemain Pinot Gris back in February 2023 at one of the worlds largest wine trade shows. It was an absolute show stopper, the price was beyond right, and the packaging was insane (I love wax on a bottle that costs less than $20!).

Sadly, the winery didn't have any to sell us. They don't make much, and it was sold out (why we got to taste it when there was none to sell is a different conversation for a different time 😂).

So we waited...and waited...and waited...and we were finally given the opportunity to buy this gem!

Guillemain is from one of the hottest new winemaking wizards in France, Antoine de Lafarge - and I'm not even remotely kidding when I tell you this will be one of the best white wines you drink in 2024.

Why is this wine so good?

Reuilly is one of those lesser known Loire Valley appellations that are rapidly becoming important, since Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé are getting expensive and harder to find. While Sauvignon Blanc covers most of the 500 acres or so of the place, a little bit of Pinot Gris is grown here. Because the de la Farge vineyard sits on Kimmeridgien Clay, the soil underneath Chablis and Sancerre, there is a nerve and minerality to this wine that makes it racy and refreshing.

Some friends of mine have made a point recently that due to Sancerre prices, they are looking for something that is "like a Sancerre." You know, similar flavor profile and excitement that doesn't break the bank?

That's where this wine comes in.

Sadly we have just 168 cases of this wine available until next year. So we'll drink it, enjoy it...and then start waiting again. 😂

It's supposed to be HOT today. So you know what I'm drinking tonight!!

The fine folks from the Bonnie family (you can read more about them here) approached us in January with an offer.

Would we be interested in some 10 year old Bordeaux from their Chateau Gazin Rocquencourt estate that we could retail for $24.99 per bottle? Of course we were, but we had to taste it first.

If you love red wine with some age on it, this is going to be for you!

Aging wine is tons of fun - when it works. I have many a bottle in my wine fridge that I have held onto for just a bit too long, and now the wine just isn’t great anymore (at least to me).

The 2014 Gazin Rocquencourt is not in that camp. It is in an awesome place right now, and the winery took the care of holding the wine for us for the last 10 years 😂. The harsh red wine tannins from a young wine have all but disappeared, but the fruit is still all there - leaving you with a wine bursting with flavor, but smooth as silk.

It also doesn’t hurt that we can also bring it to you for $24.99. Current vintages from this estate currently retail around $65 (HERE).

Like much of the best of Bordeaux, Chateau Gazin Rocquencourt has proven itself over centuries. The elegant mansion was built in 1660 but the estate’s origins go back to the Middle Ages, and it can reasonably be called one of the oldest wine estates in the great commune of Léognan, the beating heart of Graves. Like its name suggests, the region’s crucial vineyards are full of gravel, as with Gazin Roquencourt’s hilltop site, and the estate benefits even more by sharing the winemaking team of Malartic-Lagravière (my new fave wine).

As it happens with some deals, this was a closeout and what we got is all we are getting.

We have just 112 cases of the 750ml bottles and 10 six packs of magnums for all of NC.

So get while the gettin' is good!

Chances of me drinking one tonight are pretty close to 100%!

Last time we had this wine in stock was January of 2021, and we have been begging for Chateau de Cary Potet to send us more ever since!

Well, FINALLY they had a crop that they felt was worthy of their wine, and their new 2022 Bourgogne Pinot Noir is out!

Much like Sancerre, the upward trajectory of Burgundy prices has started to give me vertigo. So it is extremely refreshing when you find a wine like Cary Potet Bourgogne Pinot Noir delivering the goods for only $19.99 per bottle. (Pro tip: Open the wine and put it in your fridge for 15-20 minutes before serving - it's a game changer :)

The wine was one of the breakout Pinot Noir stars for us nearly 3 years ago, and we are excited to see it take off again!

Though this domaine’s claim to fame is Montagny, they have traditionally produced Pinot Noir as well, and the new owners have applied their centuries’ long experience to craft delicate, gentle red Burgundy.

This 100% Pinot Noir is organichand-harvested and the wine sees mostly used oak with long settling in tanks to preserve those delicacies: roses, strawberries, and bright bing cherries. It's all things I love about Pinot Noir wrapped up into one!

As always, we are very thankful for your support. We work hard to try and earn your business each and every day, and I promise we do not take it for granted.

I know what I'm drinking tonight!

Second Lowest Online Price in the USA!

I have to come out here at the start and say unfortunately we are not the lowest price in the US on this wine. We are only the second lowest price. Someone in MO has us beaten by $1. I just had to get that off my chest. 😁

That said, even at the second lowest price in the US, this wine is just plain awesome.

“Details by Sinegal” is the official name of this wine and owner David Sinegal (think Costco) bought this historic Napa estate ten years ago, though its vineyards date back to the 1880s. The winery consultants are a who’s who: David Abreu, Michel Rolland and Philippe Melka. The vineyard manager is Trevor Antognini who most recently managed Peter Michael and Sloan. 100% Sauvignon Blanc, this is mostly from Wildwood Vineyard, one of Sonoma Valley’s oldest and most esteemed sites.

One thing I love in the wine business is when someone with the same pricing mindset I have (in this case the founder of Costco) starts a winery and while sparing absolutely no expense they stay true to their idea of trying to give consumers the biggest bang for their buck. Honestly, Sauvignon Blanc of this quality I have seen from other producers in the $35-$45 range.

For Sauvignon Blanc lovers this is a no brainer. But I get what some of the rest of you are saying. You know, "I don't like Sauvignon Blanc". In that case, I just recommend you come into the store to try it. The quality is high enough on this one that I think anyone will enjoy!

To that end, we'll have it on the machine through Sunday for just $0.01 per taste. Because nothing really costs a penny anymore and maybe more things should!

So stop by and give it a try...it's almost the weekend!

I've been reading more about the "dog days" of summer lately. Long story short? The end of July has been hot since pretty much the beginning of time. 😂

Not only did the Romans coin the phrase "days of the dog star" or "dog days", they also knew that one of the most important weapons against the heat was a nice glass of pink wine.

So in order to try and combat the heat...and celebrate our best selling rosé...and cheer on how wineries like this are still churning out $9.99 hits in a world of $10 Starbucks drinks - we're putting Larme en Rose on sale through Sunday!

Why is the wine so special?

Well, if you stick around the wine business long enough, you’ll have seen it all. Where once wine coolers were cooler than Liebfraumilch, now hard seltzer is hot (served cold). White Zin was once de rigeur, though it was never French; it was from the good ol’ US of A. But then that became too sweet and the category died. Or seemed to. Because then rosé rose up like a zombie eager for fresh meat, though the current iteration of the pink stuff is more often French than not. Provence is the epicenter of it and the French have figured out how we like it: dry, pale pink, light and refreshing.

I know what I'm drinking tonight...right when I get home!

Our Best Selling Prosecco Has Returned! 🎇

07.16.2024

Raphael dal Bo "Raffaello" Prosecco

Release Price: $15.00
winestore. Price: $11.99 (net)
SAVE 20%

Lowest Online Price in the US!

*Curbside Pickup Always Available!*

In a current environment where even 1+ million case Prosecco operations like La Marca have had to increase their prices to nearly $14 per bottle at Total Wine, Raffaello Prosecco has proven to be maybe the best value Prosecco on the planet.

That may also explain why it is so hard to keep in stock!

It's been out of stock since late February - and we are happy to report Raffaello has come back in stock and all is right in the world (well, at least if you like Prosecco 😂).

Raphael dal Bo is a real guy, born and raised in Conegliano, the beating heart of Prosecco, the place that still produces the indisputably best version of the Glera grape that gives us this absolutely cheery bubbly. That certainly explains why he was the first to receive organic certification for his Organic Prosecco and why he remains solely focused upon Prosecco still today.

But what is up with Prosecco in general?

After decades as an only vaguely popular international wine, in 2009 Prosecco was redefined; its lesser regions becoming DOCs and its more specialized areas, Conegliano-Valdobbiadene and Colli Asolani, gaining DOCG status. There was plenty of good news in that: no more would lesser areas be available for bottling as Prosecco, and Italy could go to war against other countries (like Australia) labeling their white wines as Prosecco. For Australian producers (and others), Prosecco was a grape, not a place. Concomitant with these changes, Italy had re-titled the grape as Glera, thus mooting any possibility of other countries insisting that they were just naming their wines Prosecco as a varietal designation. Maybe it helped, but Prosecco blew up, internationally speaking.

This labeling scheme was good lawyering stuff, for sure. But the larger issue is that Prosecco is now rather complicated, if it is more protected and (theoretically at least), more controlled and likely to be of higher quality. Prosecco producers also began labeling their wines by sugar levels: Raffaello’s Extra Dry (made of 100% Glera) has about the same amount of sugar in it as most Champagnes, so it’s not sweet. But Prosecco of old was generally dry and the higher end DOCG stuff remains so. Confused yet? You should be. This is all wine law in full frontal evolution and it’s anybody’s guess if this makes Prosecco sexier or more popular than it already is. That said, it's still the first choice for most folks.

I know what I'm drinking tonight! Ice cold with maybe an extra ice cube for good measure!

Should $6.99 White Wine Taste This Good?!? 👀

07.10.2024

2022 La Petite Gargotte Blanc

Release Price: $14.99
SALE Price: $6.99 (net)

Sale runs Wednesday July 10th - Sunday July 14th, 2024

When the temps get over 95 degrees this wine starts to move like lightning, but when the temps get that high AND we put it on sale for $6.99 it is basically a perfect storm. There is just something about an ice cold, crisp, dry white wine on a warm summer afternoon that hits just right 😁

(If we're being honest it also hits just right like at 8pm on the couch watching the latest episode of that Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader Documentary on Netflix (it's all anyone is talking about!), but it can work any which way!)

So why do we love this wine so much?

The Comte Tolosan region is a defined area (the wine trade calls them IGPs or Géographique Protégée) that encompasses famed wine regions: Jurancon, Cahors and Armagnac, but the wines so named are either blends of the better-known areas or blends that include wines from outside those spots though still in Southwest France. Typically, the white wines are based upon neutral grapes like Ugni Blanc, Colombard, and Folle Blanche, or more aromatic grapes like Petit Manseng or Gros Manseng. While few of these grapes have distinctive personalities, if you put them into a harmonious blend (like we have here), they can be really charming and waaaaaaaaaay over deliver for the price point.

So leave work a little early today, grab a bottle, and start the "weekend" right. Wednesday is the start of the weekend, right? 😂

'Tis the final two days of our July 4th Sale, and did we save the best feature wine for last?

Like I said in the subject line, when it comes to Mata'Or - if you know, you know.

There may be no bigger crowd favorite than Mata'Or from Domaine Vellas.

We have featured this wine in just two e-mails in 4 years, and it went bonkers from there.

I know of no other wine we carry that we have mentioned just two times that sells this fast...

Why is this wine so popular?!

In our opinion, the people at Domaine Vellas are turning out some of the most exciting value wines in France, and Mata' Or is a perfect example.

Among the diverse operations the Vellas family manages on their estates in Languedoc and Roussillon is an equestrian center and a “Manades” or farm where they breed Camargue bulls, bred solely for the "course camarguaise" (Camargue style of bullfighting). It’s not the bloody affair that we associate with bullfighting (at least, that’s the goal). In the arena, the bull gives chase with a dozen “razeteurs” (Camargue bullfighters) who try to remove a cockade that has been attached between its horns with strings. It's not for the faint of heart. The wine too is a big, bold blend from the highly regarded Costiere de Nimes AOP – horns not included.

Two days left in the sale - let's do this!
