Maison de Flottes Brut
When you ferment grape juice into wine, you get carbon dioxide. With most wines, you let the CO2 drift up into the air. With sparkling wine, you just keep the container of fermenting grapes sealed and you bottle the wine with the bubbles in it as well. It can be more complicated, of course, but that’s roughly how The Florensac Vignerons have made this Picpoul and Terret blend. Consider it racy, lively and perfect for a sunny summer.

INCIDENT REPORT, filed by Inspector Clouseau: Someone has combined 50% Cabernet with 50% Syrah. In broad daylight. I have dusted the bottle for fingerprints and found only my own. I asked questions; it refuses to talk. I have narrowed the suspects to everyone in the Languedoc, and also myself. Conclusion: the Cabernet gave it the structure, the Syrah gave it the swagger, and someone gave it to me, and now the bottle is empty and I remember nothing. I suspect it was delicious. The case will remain open until further sips.

Aside from sounding like Dustin Hoffman’s character in Midnight Cowboy, Rasteau is one of the genuine values in red wine. More or less baby Chateauneuf, Rasteau these days mimics the blend that has evolved in Chateauneuf-du-Pape and now extends to other critical areas of the Southern Rhone: 70% Grenache, 15% Mourvedre, 10% Syrah, 5% other (in this case, Cinsault).
Malluso Rosso
Sicily spent most of the 20th century as the anonymous muscle behind countless northern Italian and French wines, adding color and body while getting none of the credit. Nero d'Avola was the workhorse doing the heavy lifting. Then, sometime around the turn of the millennium, Sicily decided it was done being a supporting actor. Malluso is the everyday version of that story, bold, unpretentious, and very happy at your dinner table.

A blend of Cabernet, Grenache, Syrah, Monastrell and Carignan, this wine is aged for 18 months in French Oak barrels and then bottled in what may be the heaviest piece of glass in all of winedom :)
McKahn Morning Glass Cabernet
Chuck McKahn knew at fifteen he wanted to make wine. After studying fermentation science at Cal Poly, he spent five harvests at Chappellet on Pritchard Hill before co-founding McKahn Wines in 2014 with his wife Brittany and parents Kevin and Denise. His Morning Glass is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from a top southern Napa site: destemmed to stainless, 14 days on the skins, aged 18 months in French oak (40% new).
Meiomi Chardonnay
Back in 2015, Joe Wagner, whose father owns Caymus, sold the Meiomi brand to Constellation Brands for $315 million. Let that sink in for a second. Constellation, one of the largest wine companies in the world bought only the brand for crazy money; no vineyards, no winery, nothing but some wine with labels on it. Now, what does that say about Meiomi and its style of wine? Somebody bet really, really big on it and, so far, the bet has worked out.

This is what we like to call Pinot for Cab drinkers. Large and in charge this is the Pinot packs more punch than many Pinot's that are twice as expensive. Don't worry about the screw cap...these people know what they are doing.
Mer Soleil SLH Chardonnay
Chuck Wagner, son of the founder of Napa Valley's famed Caymus Winery, originated this rich Chardonnay and since 2011 son Charlie III has fashioned the wines into one of California's most extravagant Chardonnays.
Meyer Family Spitfire Cabernet
You know Silver Oak. Justin and Bonny Meyer founded it, built it into one of the most recognized names in Cabernet, and then their son Matt went off and started something of his own. The Spitfire is where that family legacy hits closest to home — fruit from Bonny's Vineyard in Oakville, the same site that supplied some of Silver Oak's earliest and most celebrated bottlings. Same ground and a wine that drinks with the easy confidence you'd expect from a family that's been doing this since 1972.
Minairo
The fame of Priorat is both recent and ancient; the beautiful Escaladei (Steps of God) mountain formation frames the monastery of Santa Maria of Escaladei; it was founded in the 12th century by Alfonso the Chaste (poor guy). And over the last few decades, the slate and quartz soils called llicorella generate super low yields and super concentrated wines. Grenache and Carignan dominate but this blend includes small amounts of Syrah and Merlot; six months in French oak barrels offers a wine that is powerful but still framed by useful acidity.

Grenache is juicy and full, Syrah is mouth-filling and peppery and the two of them, more often than not, need the indescribable weirdness of Mourvedre to complete a picture with chiaroscuro depth. The Cellier d’Eole is a cooperative based in Rieux Minervois (one of the best areas in the Languedoc-Roussillon) with 205 members that cultivate 3800 acres.
