Domaine des Cotes Blanches Sancerre
Why we picked it
Sauvignon Blanc’s domaine has long been considered the hills surrounding the Loire, along with nearby Pouilly-Fumé. But it’s here that the grape has made its bones in chalky hills of silex and limestone and marine fossils. But beware, Sancerre isn’t the same lean, minerally, herbal and oftentimes aggressive wine it was for centuries. Now, it can be fruity, generous, an instant pleasure to drink, made, as it is, from far riper grapes.

Antoine de la Farge Pouilly Fume
Like all of Antoine’s wines, this is farmed organically and skillfully crafted, from a region that has become harder and harder to find and, if you find it, it's harder to afford. The region now offers powerful and fruity Sauvignon Blanc, not at all like those of New Zealand. People lament that climate change has altered wines, but Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé are often fruitier and more fun to drink as the weather heats up. Hooray, climate change?
Bateau A La Mer
"Picpoul" means "lip stinger" in the old Occitan tongue, which is not a warning, it's a promise. This is the Mediterranean's answer to a cold oyster: grown on clay-limestone right beside the Thau lagoon, harvested at night to keep every bit of freshness intact, then rested on fine lees in concrete tanks. Everything about it is built for the sea.
Belcoop White
Grenache Blanc is a work in progress, but only because the consumer is still discovering it. With enough sunshine, Grenache Blanc can develop weight and power. The wine is fermented like Chardonnay in some ways, though the stainless steel variety; its lees are stirred in the tank, creating greater richness and texture, and Grenache Blanc is very happy that way. You will be too.
