Lobster Reef Sauv Blanc
Why we picked it
Lobster Reef was started by the Brown family, grape growers since 1980. After a decade of producing grapes for others, they started their own project, Cape Campbell Wines. In 2002 they bought 200 acres in the Blind River sub-region of Marlborough, Sauvignon Blanc’s sweet spot. Lobster Reef represents wines from that spot as well as some from some of their neighbors in Marlborough.

Antoine de la Farge Pouilly Fume
Like all of Antoine’s wines, this is farmed organically and skillfully crafted, from a region that has become harder and harder to find and, if you find it, it's harder to afford. The region now offers powerful and fruity Sauvignon Blanc, not at all like those of New Zealand. People lament that climate change has altered wines, but Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé are often fruitier and more fun to drink as the weather heats up. Hooray, climate change?
Belcoop White
Grenache Blanc is a work in progress, but only because the consumer is still discovering it. With enough sunshine, Grenache Blanc can develop weight and power. The wine is fermented like Chardonnay in some ways, though the stainless steel variety; its lees are stirred in the tank, creating greater richness and texture, and Grenache Blanc is very happy that way. You will be too.
Chateau Grand Billard
If you ask any wine expert to name the value wines, they will likely reel off only a few dozen well-known names, and some of them count Grand Billard amongst them. It’s the basic Sauvignon Blanc blend, with mostly used barrels to keep the cost reasonable. This is from the critically raved about 2022 vintage so check out the wine to see what the fuss is all about.
